Anyone that has watched the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets since current head coach Brent Key took over knows that the key to Key’s offense lies in his offensive line and ability to run the football. However, the recruiting and transfer portal additions this offseason show something a little different: how much Key values the wide receiver position for the Yellow Jackets.
Key has been a busy man this offseason, as he has hit both recruiting and the transfer portal hard, and one position that Key has been focused on is his wide receivers. Sure losing Eric Singleton Jr and Chase Lane played a huge part in the offseason moves for the position, but it’s about the volume of players Key brought in at the position.
The biggest grab that the Yellow Jackets got in the offseason is the addition of wide receiver Eric Rivers, but it did not stop there. Key brought in River's teammate, Dean Patterson, and added in Debron Gatling, Evan Haynes, and Rahkeem Smith from the portal as well.
But it did not stop there. Key furthered his focus on the position by adding Darnell Collins, Jeffar Jean-Noel, Kentrell Davis, Isaac Obrokta, and Jeremy Winston from the class of 2026 recruiting cycle that is set up to be the future of the position of the program.
Adding in a total of 10 players from the position shows that Key takes special consideration of his roster needs and is not afraid to get a big play receiver in a primarily running offense.
