The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets headed into their series opener against the Virginia Cavaliers with a much-needed burst of offense, and the team got just that, as they would score at least five runs in each game of the series, and score a total of 21 runs in three games.
It started in game one, which would be the highest scoring game of the series for both teams, as the Cavaliers would pick up a 12-9 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The nine runs that the Yellow Jackets scored were the most that the team has scored since April 12.
Game two seen the Yellow Jackets bats simmer down a bit, scoring five runs, but it is worth noting that three of those runs came in the bottom of the ninth, and the Yellow Jackets were nearly able to send the game into extra innings, but the comeback fell just short, as the Yellow Jackets would lose the game 6-5.
Riding a seven game losing streak heading into the game on Sunday, the Yellow Jackets lineup knew that they needed to keep up with their pace of the first two games if they wanted to pick up the win. The lineup would be sporadic in the game, but in a desperate situation in the bottom of the ninth needing two runs, Yellow Jackets outfielder Drew Burress would hit a game tying two run home run, followed by a tenth inning walk off solo home run by Kent Schmidt to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-6 victory.
