The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lineup has been nothing short of dreadful over the past 12 days, and today was no exception, as the Yellow Jackets would score seven runs, but they did it sporadically.
It started today for the Yellow Jackets when the team just could not get anything going early in the game. Through the first five innings, the Yellow Jackets only had two hits on the board, an RBI double by outfielder Alex Hernandez that would bring home Kyle Lodise, and a single by catcher Vahn Lackey in the fourth inning.
The Yellow Jackets did create a little bit of a spark in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring two runs off of a sacrifice fly by Carson Kerce that would bring home Caleb Daniel after a double by Lackey, and a single by first baseman Kent Schmidt would bring home Lackey, so it seemed that the team had built up some momentum to make the game 4-3.
The Cavaliers would score two runs in the top of the seventh, and the Yellow Jackets would answer back with pinch hitter Will Baker in the bottom of the inning, as he was brought in as a pinch hitter and homered to lead off the inning. However, that would be the only run that the Yellow Jackets would score in the inning, making the score 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets would get runners on first and second in the eighth inning, but back-to-back outs would retire the side with the Yellow Jackets not being able to score a run in the inning.
The lineup would came alive in the ninth inning, as Kyle Lodise got a single with one out to start the inning, followed by a two-run game tying home run by Drew Burress that would tie the game 6-6.
The two teams would go into the tenth inning, where Lackey would throw out two Cavaliers that were trying to steal second base, followed by a strikeout by Patel to retire the side.
The Yellow Jackets would get a solo home run by Kent Schmidt in the bottom of the tenth to walk it off, giving the Yellow Jackets a 7-6 victory.
