With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took the court against the Virginia Cavaliers today knowing that a loss would end their season, but the eight-seeded Yellow Jackets would pull out a gutsy performance against the Cavaliers, and it would result in a 66-60 win for the Yellow Jackets.
Both teams would focus on the defensive side of the ball early and often, as neither team could separate themselves from the other, as they would head into halftime tied at 25, and that trend would continue in the second half until the Yellow Jackets would go on an 8-0 run to go up 43 -35 with just over 11 minutes left in the contest.
With the Yellow Jackets able to sustain that lead for most of the second half, the Cavaliers would fight back to get within two after the Yellow Jackets were up by as much as 13 with just over two minutes left.
A multitude of bad decisions and poor free throw shooting would allow the Cavaliers to get back in the game late.
However, the Yellow Jackets were able to make crucial free throws at the very last minute of the game to close it out and secure a spot in the next round of the ACC Tournament.
The Cavaliers season now comes to an end, while the Yellow Jackets will look ahead to tomorrow, as they will take on the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils tomorrow at Noon Eastern time.
