The Georgia Tech men’s basketball team opens its 2025–26 season Monday night at McCamish Pavilion, hosting Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. The matchup begins a three-game homestand for the Yellow Jackets and marks the first game of the season for both programs.

Scouting the Opponent

UMES, a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), wrapped up the 2024–25 season with a 6–25 overall record and a 2–12 mark in league play. Monday’s game will be the third all-time meeting between the Hawks and the Yellow Jackets—and the first since the 1984–85 season. Georgia Tech won both of the previous matchups, which were played at Alexander Memorial Coliseum under then-head coach Bobby Cremins.

A New Chapter Under Stoudamire

Year three of the Damon Stoudamire era in Atlanta begins with optimism. Georgia Tech improved its win total last season, finishing 17–15 overall and 10–10 in ACC play—good for eighth place in the conference. The Jackets earned a first-round bye in the ACC Tournament, defeating Virginia before falling to Duke in the quarterfinals. Although a lopsided NIT loss ended the season on a disappointing note, Stoudamire’s squad showed clear progress in its second year.

In an early October press conference, Stoudamire outlined his team’s goal for the upcoming season: continued growth and consistency on both ends of the court.

Key Returners and New Faces

The Jackets will once again be anchored by 6-foot-9 junior forward Baye Ndongo (Mboro, Senegal), a third-team All-ACC selection who averaged 13.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, and shot 53.6% from the field in conference play last season. Ndongo enters the year as one of the league’s top returning big men.

Also back is 6-foot-7 wing Kowacie Reeves Jr. (Macon, Ga.), who was limited to just six games last season due to a foot injury but contributed 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 2023–24. Sophomore guard Jaeden Mustaf (Bowie, Md.) returns after averaging 8.6 points and 1.6 assists across 26 contests.

Georgia Tech has also retooled its roster with four transfer additions:

  • Chas Kelley (6-3 guard, Boston College)
  • Kam Craft (6-6 wing, Miami [Ohio])
  • Lamar Washington (6-4 guard, Pacific)
  • Peyton Marshall (7-0 center, Missouri)

They are part of a group of 10 newcomers joining the program for 2025–26.
