The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets would head into their game against the Virginia Tech Hokies desperate for a win after four straight losses, while the Hokies were coming into the game fresh off of a loss to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
The Yellow Jackets offense would start on fire, making their first five shots of the contest, including three from beyond the arc, and quickly building a 13-4 lead early in the game. They would eventually grow that lead throughout the first half, getting it as big as nine points again before the Hokies came storming back.
Duncan Powell would lead the charge early for the Yellow Jackets, as he would score 8 points in the first ten minutes of the game, starting the game making three of his first four shots. At one point, Powell made two three-point shots in the span of just 37 seconds apart.
The Hokies would battle back, making the score 24-23 with 9 minutes left in the first half. The Yellow Jackets would stop the run with a layup by #10, before the Hokies would tie the game at 26 after a three-point shot.
From there, the Yellow Jackets would go on a 13-9 run to end the half up 39-35.
Yellow Jackets forward Duncan Powell leads all players with 16 points at halftime, while sophomore forward Baye Ndongo would drop nine points. Sophomore Naithan George is on pace for a double double, finishing the half with five points and five assists.
