Heading into the baseball season, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets biggest question was how the pitching rotation would sort itself out, or if it would at all, but if there is one area that the Yellow Jackets have looked lackluster in this season, it would be at the plate, aside from yesterday's 12-1 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd.
The team would not record their first hit of the season until the fifth inning in their season-opening game against the Old Dominion Monarchs, a game that the Yellow Jackets won 3-2. In their second game, the Yellow Jackets were scoreless through eight innings before the bats became hot in the bottom of the ninth inning, resulting in a walk-off grand slam by Drew Burress.
The team’s third game against the Monarchs was perhaps the most complete offensive performance we have seen by the team this season, scoring three runs in both the fifth and seventh innings in a 7-4 win for the Yellow Jackets.
The Yellow Jackets game Tuesday against the Georgia Southern Eagles showed some promise early, as they scored four runs in the first three innings, but would only score one run the rest of the game, winning 5-3.
In a total of 41 innings of work this season , the Yellow Jackets offense has scored in 14 of those innings.
While the Yellow Jackets do sit at 5-0 this season, it should be noted that the pitching staff has been the area that the team has looked the most impressive this season, while the offense has some catching up to do.
