The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets had all the confidence in the world that they would be able to hold their own against the Clemson Tigers in their quarterfinal matchup yesterday, after all the guy that would get the start on the mound would be the only pitcher on the team to earn a win against the Tigers: Brady Jacobs.
However, things don’t always go to plan, and the Yellow Jackets walked away losers, as the Tigers would pick up a 9-4 victory over the Yellow Jackets.
Jones would start the game quite well, as he did not allow a run through the first two innings and even allowed only one hit through those first two innings. Jones would give up a lead off double to Tigers shortstop Andrew Ciufo, which would be the beginning of a tumultuous inning for Jones, which got even worse, as Tigers catcher Jacob Jarrell would hit a grand slam with two outs to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead.
The start of the fourth inning would mark the end of Jones’ start, as he would be pulled from the game by Yellow Jackets head coach Danny Hall.
In the three innings that Jones was in the game, he gave up three hits, walked two batters, hit three batters, and struck out five batters.
Jones will now wait to see if the start will be his last of the season, as the Yellow Jackets wait to see where they will be seeded in the NCAA Tournament.
