The transfer portal in college football since 2020 has been something that has been a headache to everyone involved: coaches, players, and fans alike. In the offseason, plenty of players enter the portal to venture into better opportunities at bigger schools, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets did have some players that chose to enter the portal this offseason, there was one name that Yellow Jackets fans loved to see come back: quarterback Haynes King.
King decided to stay with the Yellow Jackets for his senior season, despite the fact that he could have gone to a bigger school if he entered the transfer portal. And the reason that he gave On3’s Pete Nakia is enough to get Yellow Jackets fans hyped for years to come.
“I’m not the one who tries to jump ship and quit, or try to move on to bigger and better things. Thinking the grass is greener somewhere else. This is the ship that I helped build, and I’m part of it. And let’s ride this thing out, see where we can go. Let’s try to build a championship-caliber team, not just this year, but for the years in the future.”
The quote is enough for me personally to run through a brick wall excited for the future of the Yellow Jackets, and having someone as unselfish as King lead the program is something that is mesmerizing to see for the future of the program.
King has been at the forefront of the Yellow Jackets offense for the past two seasons and will take on his third in 2025.
