The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have seen a slew of great quarterbacks come through the program, such as Joe Hamilton, Reggie Ball, Shawn Jones, and Justin Thomas, but there has been another quarterback emerge as one of the best in school history that belongs on the list: current quarterback Haynes King.
Let me take you back to 2022: former Yellow Jackets head coach Geoff Collins was still at the helm, and after a 1-3 start that included losses to UCF, Ole Miss, and Clemson, the Yellow Jackets relieved Collins of his duties and put Brent Key in his spot as the interim head coach.
Key did a great job of holding the fort down the rest of the season to earn his place as the next head coach for the Yellow Jackets. However, he knew what he needed going into the 2023 season: a quarterback that he could rely on. He found that quarterback at Texas A&M and got him to transfer to the Yellow Jackets, and since then, King has done nothing but show how a gritty quarterback is supposed to play.
King has undoubtedly been the best quarterback skill wise that I have seen play for the Yellow Jackets, and he is advancing his legacy by staying for a third and what will be his final college season.
King has put up great stats with the Yellow Jackets, throwing for 4.956 yards and 41 touchdowns while also rushing for at least 10 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Yellow Jackets.
The combination of King, Jamal Haynes, and Brent Key have the Yellow Jackets set up to be perennial contenders in 2025, and him being able to be the face of turning the Yellow Jackets program around after the disaster that was the Geoff Collins era is enough for me to put him on any list among the Yellow Jackets best quarterbacks in history.
