Earlier today, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fans got their first taste of what the upcoming season of Yellow Jackets football would look like and who exactly the coaching staff would be high on coming into the season, and who would be riding the bench a lot of the time for the team. One of those players that the coaches have been lookin at is redshirt freshman Zion Taylor, who committed to the Yellow Jackets in the 2023 recruiting class.

This was a huge moment for Taylor, as he had an opportunity to prove his worth to the team. With incoming transfer receivers Eric Rivers, Dean Patterson, and Debron Gatling all vying for a spot high on the Yellow Jackets depth chart, it was Taylor who would come out on top with his performance today.

Taylor was the favorite target for Haynes King and Aaron Philo, whos split time for Team Swarm, as he caught seven passes for 152 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown came off of a trick play in which King threw the ball backward to running back Jamal Haynes, who then threw the ball downfield to Taylor, who ran it in for a touchdown.

In the age of players just transferring if the do not get the playing time they want, this was a huge boost for Taylor and how he looked to both the coaching staff and the fan base. With Rivers and Patterson not seeing playing time in the game, Taylor took advantage of the opportunity he was presented with.
