With Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets starting pitcher Brady Jacobs getting pulled out of the game after 2.1 innings of work, Yellow Jackets head coach Danny Hall knew that he needed an arm in the bullpen that he could rely on, and he chose none other than a pitcher that is quickly establishing himself as one of the best relievers in the country: Mason Patel.

Patel had a 6-0 record this season heading into the game and had not allowed a run all season while racking up 23 innings pitched.

He would head into the game with one out in the third inning with the bases loaded, needing two outs to get out of the inning for the Yellow Jackets. Patel would strike out one batter and force the next into a groundout to first.

Patel would then go on to retire 13 of the first 15 batters he faced in the game, only allowing two singles. Patel would give up his first run of the season against his first batter in the eighth inning, as he would allow a home run to Fighting Irish shortstop Estevan Moreno. Patel would regain his composure though, as he would retire the next three batter to get out of the inning.

Patel would give up one hit in the ninth and hit a batter, and on a wild play, a run would score on a double play to get the Yellow Jackets through the ninth inning, and would give Patel his seventh win of the season.
