Last season, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets outfielder Drew Burress put on a show, having the best freshman season in the history of Yellow Jackets baseball. So surely the Yellow Jackets could not strike gold twice, right? Well, you would be wrong. The Yellow Jackets have a player that I feel is just as good as Burress is, and he just proved again why he is.
When the lights shined the brightest that they have all season, Hernandez decided to put the Yellow Jackets team on his back. In the team's first matchup of the regional round of the ACC Tournament, Hernandez put together his best performance of the season.
Against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, Hernandez got the scoring started early for the Yellow Jackets, as he hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the Yellow Jackets up 3-0. Hernandez would then hit a single in the bottom of the third inning and a single in the seventh. Then, in his last at bat of the game, Hernandez would hit another three-run home run to put the Yellow Jackets up 9-2, which would wind up being the final score of the game.
Hernandez' performance in the game is something that should not be taken lightly, as this is something that the Cumming, Georgia native has done all season, and will look to do again in the Yellow Jackets next game, when they take on the Murray State Racers tomorrow at 6:00 Eastern time in the Oxford regional.
