A big question mark for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets heading into this season was the pitching rotation and how many arms that the Yellow Jackets would use in a three-game series. We now have somewhat of an answer to that, and it could actually be a good thing for the Yellow Jackets moving forward.
Over the course of their three-game series against the Old Dominion Monarchs, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets would use a total of 14 pitchers, including Alex Hernandez, who started at left field in games one and two, then moved to shortstop for game three, then pitched the last two inning of the series.
While one would say that the Yellow Jackets used too many pitchers over the weekend or one starter could not go more than five innings in all three games, I say that the team still did no allow much offensive production from the Monarchs throughout the series. They allowed an average of three runs per game, and the only reason that some pitchers were taken out was because games one and two were close to the end.
It is good that the Yellow Jackets can use this many pitchers in a series and still have high production from each one of them individually. The team combined to strike out 40 of the Monarchs batters throughout the weekend series, the third highest over the weekend in the ACC to Wake Forest and Florida State.
The Yellow Jackets pitching staff will be back in action tomorrow, as they face the Georgia Southern Eagles at 6pm Eastern time.
