The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets took the court against the Louisville Cardinals today trying to get the season back on track after a double overtime loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies three days ago.
If the Yellow Jackets were going to walk away with a win, it would be by players stepping into roles that they are not used to, as the starting lineup was missing standout guard Dani Carnegie. Guards Ines Noguero and Ariadna Termis would make their debuts in the starting lineup.
Both teams struggled to get their offenses going early in the contest, with the Cardinals taking an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The common theme for both teams to start the game was to attack inside the paint, as 24 of the game's first 31 points came from that area.
Junior guard Tonie Morgan would score seven points in the first quarter of the contest to create a spark for he offense, but the rest of the lineup has fallen stagnant, with the lone exception being forward Zoesha Smith, as she has contributed six points.
Cardinals guards Jayda Curry and Ja'Leah Williams lead all players in scoring, with Williams scoring nine, while Curry sits at eight.
A halftime, the Cardinals have built up a 37-23 lead over the Yellow Jackets, as the Yellow Jackets are set to finish well below their points per game average this season by half. Needless to say, the Yellow Jackets need a big second half and that starts with a strong start.
