The quarterfinals matchup for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and California Golden Bears is officially underway and it did not take long for the Yellow Jackets to put a stamp on the contest, as they came out with perhaps their best start this season.

Drew Burress would be the lead off man for the Yellow Jackets, and it took no time at all for him to make an impact on the game, launching a solo home run to start the game for the Yellow Jackets and putting them up 1-0.

The fast start did not stop there, as just two batters later, shortstop Kyle Lodise would step up to the plate for the first time in the game, and would increase the Yellow Jackets lead to 3-0 after a two-run home run that would also send home first baseman Kent Schmidt to put the Yellow Jackets up.

After retiring two batters, Golden Bears pitcher JJ Hollis would give up his third home run of the first inning to Yellow Jackets freshman Caleb Daniel, as the Yellow Jackets would start the game on fire, building a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The home runs would be a part of the huge production that the Yellow Jackets have seen this season, as the home run by Burress was his 17th this season, Lodise would hit his 15th, and Daniel would hit his seventh of the season.

This was the start that the Yellow Jackets needed to pick up a crucial win against the red-hot Golden Bears.
