With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets needing every win they can get, they came into their matchup with the Virginia Cavaliers as 1.5-point underdogs. However, the Cavaliers had other plans, defeating the Yellow Jackets 75-61.
The first half of the game was dominated by two players from opposite ends of the court. Guard Naithan George of the Yellow Jackets would provide a spark fror the offense in the first half, scoring 15 points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer of halftime. However, his performance was outdone on the other end of the court, as Cavaliers guard Isaac McNeely would make four of his six shots from beyond the arc to put up 18 points at halftime, resulting in the Cavaliers leading 41-36 at halftime.
The second half for the Yellow Jackets would start the second half slow offensively, resulting in an 8-2 run that would put the Cavaliers up by double digits for the first time in the contest, 49-38, with 16:53 left in the game.
The Cavaliers would use their big men in the paint to outscore the Yellow Jackets ()-() in points in the paint, at one point outscoring the Yellow Jackets 22-12 in the category.
The Cavaliers would break the game open, building up a 58-46 lead with 9:08 to play in the contest. George would make a three on the team's next possession, but the Cavaliers would then go on a 7-0 run to go up 65-49 with 6:27 left in the contest. The Cavaliers would lead by as many as 17, taking a 70-53 lead with 2:46 remaining. The Cavaliers would win the contest by a final score of 75-61.
George would lead the Yellow Jackets in scoring, while two other Yellow Jackets would score in double digits, Baye Ndongo and Duncan Powell, with Ndongo scoring 13 and Powell scoring 16.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, as they host the Stanford Cardinal.
