The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Women’s basketball team traveled to in-state Mercer Bears earlier today, with the Yellow Jackets looking to continue their impressive start to the season. With a win, the Yellow Jackets would remain undefeated this season, moving to 9-0, and after four quarters of play, they did exactly that, winning the contest 78-42.
The win came as a surprise to really no one, as the Yellow Jackets entered the game as 25-point favorites, so it was really just a matter of how long it took for the game to get out of hand, which happened rather quickly, as the Yellow Jackets took a 43-14 lead heading into halftime. The Yellow Jackets would only allow four points in the entire second quarter of the contest.
In all, five Yellow Jackets would end the game with double-digit scoring figures: Kara Dunn, Dani Carnegie, Zoesha Smith, Tonie Morgan, and Chazadi Wright. Dunn led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 14 points, while Smith and Carnegie both almost finished with double-doubles, as they both finished with nine rebounds.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets shot 45.6 percent from the field, while also shooting 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The defense for the Yellow Jackets kept pressure on the Bears all game, as the Bears offense finished with more turnovers (15) than made field goals (14).
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action again on Wednesday night, as they wil play host to UL-Monroe at 1pm Eastern to try to move to double digits in the win column and remain undefeated.
