With the transfer portal for women's college basketball in full swing, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and newly named head coach Karen Blair have hit the ground running, as they have already signed two players in Breanna Turnage and Jada Crawshaw. Blair added another name to the list today, as she has signed senior guard Savannah Samuel.
Samuel comes to the Yellow Jackets having four years of collegiate playing experience for the Boston College Eagles, West Virginia Mountaineers, and the Oregon State Beavers, where she has averaged 16.5 minutes per game throughout her career. Samuel came to the Eagles in the 2020 recruiting cycle, so her first year of eligibility remained intact because of the NCAA's COVID protocols.
Throughout her career with the Eagles, Samuel has put up 4.6 points per game, but the area that she can really help the Yellow Jackets in is having a veteran on the court, as most of the players that will see significant playing time next season will be sophomores or juniors.
Samuel returns to her home state of Georgia, where she played high school basketball for St. Francis High School, where she led the team to a state title in her senior season, averaging 22 points per game.
At 6'1", Samuel can be a guard for the Yellow Jackets that is also able to fight for rebounds and bring a sense of physicality to the team that could be somewhat lost with the departures of Kayla Blackshear and Zoesha Smith in the offseason.
