The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team just can’t stop winning. No, literally. The team hosted the UL-Monroe Warhawks earlier today, looking to start the season 10-0, and they did just that, in dominant fashion nonetheless, in a 97-37 victory over the Warhawks.
The 10-0 start is the best in the program’s history.
The Yellow Jackets headed into the game heavy favorites, but no one expected the 60-point margin of victory, which is the largest from the Yellow Jackets this season.
Yellow Jackets head Nell Fortner got the scoring for her team going early and often, as they took a commanding 28-10 lead at the and of the first quarter, which included a 12-0 run during the quarter.
The second quarter would start much the same, as the Yellow Jackets would go the first 7:37 of the quarter without allowing a single point. That quarter would set the tone of the game, as the Yellow Jackets led at halftime 53-14.
Every Georgia Tech player that seen the court for the team scored at least two points, with Rusne Augustinaite leading the way with 17 points. In total, four Yellow Jackets were able to score in double digits, and the team finished with 27 team assists.
The next time the Yellow Jackets take the court, it will be in Chapel Hill on Sunday at 2pm Eastern time, where they will have their toughest task yet, as they will meet the No.14 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels to open up conference play.
