With the end of every college athletics season, the realization sets in for players that they could be successful elsewhere, or the current team that they are on jus does not fit the needs that they are looking for. The first player for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball team has made that decision for her career, with sophomore forward Rusne Augustinaite announcing that she will transfer for next season.
Augustinaite has gone between being a role player and a pivotal bench player for the Yellow Jackets, as in the 2023-24 season, she would appear in a total of 26 games, but started in none of them, averaging 11.5 minutes per game. However, she proved to be effective, as she averaged 5.6 points.
Yellow Jackets head coach Nell Fortner would notice Augustinaite's hard work, as she would move her to a larger role with the team heading into this season, averaging 27.4 minutes per game. However, she would begin to start games for the Yellow Jackets, starting in 17 of the team's 33 games this season.
Perhaps Augustinaite's biggest asset to the team was her ability to shoot from beyond the arc, as she was fourth on the team this season in three-pointers made. She would attempt an average of 10.4 field goals per game this season, and on average, six of those attempts came from beyond the arc.
The Yellow Jackets are now looking for a player that can provide a spark off the bench from three-point range heading into next season.
