The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team will look a little different next season with former head coach Nell Fortner retiring and the departure of Kara Dunn being the biggest blows to the team. However, newly named head coach Karen Blair got some good news, as she landed her first transfer: Florida State Seminoles guard Brianna Turnage.
Turnage has seen limited playing time for the Seminoles, where she has spent the past three seasons, averaging 16.7 minutes per game in her career. In those 16.7 minutes, Turnage has made the biggest impact on the boards, where she averages 4.3 rebounds per game, but had a standout sophomore season where she averaged 6.2 rebounds per game.
She has averaged just 1.7 points per game in her career, but the low scoring numbers are a direct result of her not taking shots while she was with the Seminoles. She averaged just 2.3 shots per game throughout her career there, so maybe the Yellow Jackets bring her in and see what kind of offensive weapon she can be.
It was surprising to me that the Yellow Jackets first transfer of the offseason was a guard, as the team is desperately looking to fill a forward spot on the team, as Ariadna Termis remains to be the only non-guard on the team, as she is listed as a center, meaning that the Yellow Jackets have no forwards right now on their current roster.
This is the start of a new era for Yellow Jackets basketball, and this first move could be one that helps the Yellow Jackets a lot.
