The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets went into their weekend series against the Virginia Cavaliers looking to garner some momentum to continue on with the season after riding a five game losing streak heading into the series. The Yellow Jackets would lose their first two games of the series, but Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey would lead the way as the Yellow Jackets would win in walk off fashion 7-6 on Sunday.
Lackey's weekend began in a big way, as he would hit 3-4 in game one of the series, with all three hits being singles, contributing to what would wind up as a nine run outing for the lineup. The nine runs for the team were their most since April 12.
In game two of the series, Lackey would be one of five Yellow Jackets players to get a hit in what would be a five run performance for the lineup. Lackey's lone hit was a single and he was walked one time in the contest.
In the last game of the series, Lackey would come up huge for the Yellow Jackets, as he would go 2-5 in the contest, putting up a single and his first extra base hit of the series in a double. Lackey would play a crucial role late in the game, as he would throw out two separate runners that were trying to steal second base. The Yellow Jackets would win the contest 7-6 in walk off fashion, ending their eight game losing streak in the process.
