The positive vibes continue for the 2025 Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech football has a proud history of national award winners. Quarterback Joe Hamilton won the Davey O’Brien Award in 1999. The program also boasts two Ray Guy Award winners, with Durant Brooks in 2007 and Pressley Harvin III in 2020.
This weeks recognition
This week, two more Jackets earned national recognition. Quarterback Haynes King and punter Marshall Nichols were both honored for standout performances, marking the second and third times this season they have received weekly honors.
King shined in Saturday’s comeback win. He accounted for 349 of Georgia Tech’s 411 total yards and scored three touchdowns. His effort included 243 yards passing and 106 yards rushing, with one touchdown through the air and two on the ground. His final rushing score came from two yards out in overtime to seal the victory.
In the process, King broke two school records. He became the first Yellow Jacket to post 13 games with both a passing and rushing touchdown, surpassing Joe Hamilton’s mark from 1996–99. He also recorded his sixth game with at least 100 passing yards and 100 rushing yards, passing Justin Thomas’ record set from 2013–16. For the third time in four games, King was named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s “Great 8” list, which highlights the nation’s best quarterbacks each week.

Nichols also continued his strong season. For the second straight game, he earned a spot on the Ray Guy Award’s “Ray’s 8” list, a weekly honor which honors the top punters in college football. Against Wake Forest, Nichols averaged 43.8 yards on four punts, all of which landed inside the 10-yard line. Wake’s average starting field position after his punts was its own nine-yard line.
For the season, Nichols is averaging 46.8 yards per punt, with more than half of his kicks downed inside the 20. That average would rank inside the national top 10 if he had enough attempts to qualify. His work has helped Georgia Tech rank 16th in the country in net punting with a 44.0-yard average.
The Yellow Jackets have a bye this week. Before returning to Bobby Dodd stadium for a clash with Virginia Tech on October, 11. Expect a fired up atmosphere. As the team aims for their first 6-0 start since 1952. The 1990 team tied in ther 6th game that season. And the 2014 team lost to Duke in their 6th game.
