The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and head coach Brent Key lost three of their top four targets in the wide receiver room from last season, but over the course of the offseason, Key added in receivers and retained some from last season to make sure that the team will not have a huge drop off in 2025. Now the question remains who will be the receivers who get their number called the most.
I think that it is a pretty obvious choice at who the two starting receivers are that the Yellow Jackets will want to put out for every down: seniors Malik Rutherford and Eric Rivers, as these are the two safest options at the position for the team.
Rivers had a breakout season in 2024, as he hauled in 62 catches for 1.172 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Rutherford was the second-leading receiver on the Yellow Jackets team last season, putting up 702 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.
The slot receiver for the team will undoubted get less clear, as a mix of Rivers’ former teammate Dean Patterson, Zion Taylor, Bailey Stockton, and Debron Gatling will share a lot of the snaps in that area. Patterson had 50 catches last season for 685 yards and seven touchdowns, making him the favorite for the spot.
There will be a few rotational players that get snaps here and there, such as Chris Elko and Isiah Canion, but I think that the three that Yellow Jackets fans can expect to see the most out of are Rutherford, Rivers, and Patterson.
