The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets headed into their series with the then-No.20 ranked Louisville Cardinals needing to win two of the three games of the series to stay in the hunt for the first overall seed in the ACC with the ACC Tournament approaching. The Yellow Jackets lost game one of the weekend series, and the final two games of the series would be played as a doubleheader on Sunday. Brady Jones pitched a one-hit seven inning masterpiece in the first game of the doubleheader, and the Yellow Jackets pitching staff would look to continue that excellent start to the day by putting Jaylen Paden on the mound for game two.
Paden would start the game similarly to Jones in the first game, allowing two men on base in the first inning, then retiring the next four batters before hitting Cardinals shortstop Alex Alicea with a pitch, then retiring eight straight batters, with the streak ending when Paden walked Alicea again. Alicea would make his way to third base in the inning after a wild pitch, but Paden would get out of the inning without allowing a run. In fact, Paden went through the first six innings of the game without allowing a hit.
Head coach Danny Hall would make a pitching change though, calling Mason Patel from the bullpen. Patel would give up a solo home run to his first batter faced, but that would be the only hit that the Yellow Jackets would give up in the game, as Patel would retire the next nine batters to secure the Yellow Jackets win.
