The list for the Pitcher of the Year in college baseball is out, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pitcher Mason Patel made the cut, as it was announced that he would be a semifinalist for the award along with 15 other pitchers from around the country.
Patel has been a dominant force for the Yellow Jackets this season, as he has been far and away the best pitcher on the team.
He is used as mainly an extended reliever for the Yellow Jackets, as he has made 21 appearances on the mound this season, and delivered in all 21 times that he has taken over on the mound.
Patel earned All-ACC honors for his performance this season, as he was named to the Second Team All-ACC team, one of six Yellow Jackets to be named to All-ACC teams.
Patel becomes the first Pitcher of the Year award semifinalist for the Yellow Jackets since Buck Farmer was named one in 2013.
Patel’s season got off to a hot start, as he did not allow a run in his first five appearances of the season, pitching a total of 22.2 innings before allowing his first run of the season. Patel leads the team in wins, with 11, strikeouts, with 57, and innings pitched with 60. Patel also boasts the second highest ERA on the team, sitting at 2.74 this season. It’s safe to say that Yellow Jackets fans have not seen the last of Patel, as he will likely be a crucial player in the NCAA Tournament for the Yellow Jackets.
The finalists for the award will be announced on June 4.
