After much speculation that started from Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Buck Belue, who said on his podcast that sources from within the program told him that offensive coordinator Mike Bobo would step down from the position for the Bulldogs citing health concerns, those rumors quickly got cleared up, as Radi Nabulsi of UGASports.com cleared up the rumor on social media website Facebook, saying that, "Mike Bobo has no plans to step down as the University of Georgia offensive coordinator".
So what does the rumor have to do with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets? Well, the Yellow Jackets have someone on their staff that was immediately put at the forefront of Georgia fans minds to replace Bobo, current offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who served on the Bulldogs coaching staff from 2020-2022 as an offensive quality control assistant for quarterbacks. Faulkner won two National Championships in three seasons for the Bulldogs before joining the Yellow Jackets coaching staff two seasons ago.
In those two seasons with the Yellow Jackets, Faulkner has orchestrated an offensive revolution for the Yellow Jackets, leading the ACC in rushing yards per game his first year with the team and finishing second in rushing yards per game in the conference last season.
While the rumor being cleared doesn't mean that Bobo could be fired from the team by head coach Kirby Smart, it just confirms that Bobo has no plans to step down from his position due to health concerns, and that Yellow Jackets fans can be assured, at this moment at least, that Faulkner will not be joining the Bulldogs staff next season.
