The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team had their biggest game of the season to this point last night, as they took on the No.3 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a battle of two ranked ACC teams that will be pivotal down the stretch. While the Yellow Jackets were able to keep up in the first half, the Fighting Irish pulled away and secured an 81-66 victory.
The Fighting Irish did jump out to an early lead, scoring the game’s first nine points, and would begin the second quarter with the same nine-point run to start the quarter, but the Yellow Jackets wouldn’t let the Fighting Irish pull away, despite the team building a 13-point lead mid way through the second quarter. To close the first half, the Yellow Jackets would go on a 14-4 run to go into the locker room down 39-36 at halftime.
The third quarter seen the Yellow Jackets tie the game at 39 after a three-pointer by Kara Dunn to open the third quarter, but the Fighting Irish finally pulled away in the quarter, being up 61-50 heading into the fourth quarter.
With freshman Dani Carnegie out for the second consecutive game, the Yellow Jackets again started Ariadna Termis, who shot 0-4 in the game and made one of her two free throws, but led the team in rebounds.
Kara Dunn would lead the way for the Yellow Jackets with 21 points, while forward Tonie Morgan would be the only other player on the team that would score more than ten points in the contest, as she finished with 17.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Sunday against the Clemson Tigers.
