Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets pitcher Tate McKee would take the mound for the second time this season in the team’s first of a four game series against the Marshall Thundering Herd, looking to get his for win of the season.
In his only other appearance this season, McKee would pitch five scoreless innings and allow just two hits to the Old Dominion Monarchs.
McKee would start the first inning on a high note, retiring the first six batters for the Thundering Herd, before allowing a double to Tyler Kamerer with no outs on the top of the third inning.
After that hit, McKee would strike out two batters and force a fly out to keep the Yellow Jackets lead at 8-0.
McKee would walk his first batter with one out in the top of the fourth inning, but he would get out of the inning after a strikeout and a fly out to left field.
A triple by Thundering Herd outfielder Elijah Vogelsong with no outs in the top of the fifth would give McKee his toughest situation in the game so far.
McKee would walk the next batter to put two on with no outs in the inning.
A groundout on the next play would bring Vogelsong home, as the Yellow Jackets elected to try for a double play at second and first, but would only get the runner going to second.
McKee would get the next two batters out to end the inning with the Yellow Jackets up 9-1.
McKee would then get taken out of the game, but his impact was felt by the Yellow Jackets, pitching five innings and only allowing three hits and one run while striking out six batters, and getting the win in the team’s 12-1 victory.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action for game two of the series at 2pm Eastern time.
