On Sunday, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets would host the Florida State Seminoles, and while both teams had their own questionable lineup decisions, the Seminoles would walk out victorious, 73-70. However, perhaps a bigger story from the game was the play of Georgia Tech guard Tianna Thompson.
Thompson is in her freshman season with the Yellow Jackets, and really has not made that much of an impact in the box score for the team, but when the team needed a player to step up on Sunday, Thompson more than delivered.
Thompson would come off the bench for the Yellow Jackets trying to provide a spark for the offense, and she would, as she scored 19 points for the team throughout the course of the game. The freshman would make eight of her ten shots in the game and shoot 3-5 from beyond the arc. Thompson would do this while only playing 21 minutes in the game. Her 19 points beat her season-high of 13 points that she scored in the team's 89-65 win over the Clemson Tigers on Jan. 19.
Coming into the game, Thompson had not played more than 18 minutes in a game this season.
It seemed as if any time the Yellow Jackets needed a basket, Thompson was there to provide it for them. She would play a crucial role in the comeback attempt for the Yellow Jackets, scoring ten points in the fourth quarter.
Thompson and the Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Thursday as they take on the California Golden Bears.
