With the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets looking for offense where they could get it over the weekend in their three game series against the Old Dominion Monarchs, a player that consistently came up big for the Yellow Jackets was catcher Vahn Lackey.

Lackey started 26 games for the Yellow Jackets behind the plate in his freshman season last year, so one of the spots in a team that had a 66 percent roster turnover rate heading into the season was at catcher, with Lackey returning.

In game one against the Monarchs, Lackey would go 1-4 and get the Yellow Jackets first hit of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single to left field. While it was his only hit of the game, it proved to be a big one, as it got the offense rolling for the Yellow Jackets.

In game two, Lackey would again get the Yellow Jackets first hit of the contest, as he would get his first extra base hit of the season in the second inning, a double to right field, to put the Yellow Jackets in a situation with a runner in scoring position.

Lackey would advance to third on a wild pitch, but the Yellow Jackets lineup was unable to bring him home.

Lackey would be a pivotal piece of the Yellow Jackets win in the game, as he singled in the bottom of the ninth inning with no outs and advanced first baseman Kent Schmidt to second base. Lackey would eventually be brought home and play part in a seven-run ninth inning for the Yellow Jackets to secure a 7-3 victory over the Monarchs.

In game three, Lackey would go 1-4 and get his first RBI of the season on a double to center field, bringing home designated hitter Nathan Waugh.

Over the course of the weekend, Lackey would go a combined 4-12 with an RBI, and secure himself as the starting catcher for the Yellow Jackets moving forward.
