Nathan Rakitt and Christopher Eubanks Advance in ITA National Summer Championships

Looks like Georgia Tech Tennis representatives are having a strong showing in the ITA/USTA National Summer Championships in Indiana.

Nathan Rakitt and Christopher Eubanks have both advanced in the summertime tourney on the Indiana University campus.

Rakitt, who is one of the Top 8 seeds in this tournament, swatted his way through a couple of straight set victories in defeating Michigan State’s  Jasper Koenen 7-5, 6-0 and Notre Dame’s Nicolas Montoya, 6-2, 7-6.

Next up for Nathan Rakitt is a a Top 16 seed from South Carolina, Thomas Mayronne.

Rakitt finished ranked 115th in the nation last spring by the ITA in singles competition.

Menawhile, Christopher Eubanks is having success as well in “The Hoosier State”.

Eubanks, who has been ranked as high as 14th in the nation among junior players in the past year, handled Vanderbilt’s Ryan McElvenny in the second round by a count of 6-1, 6-0, and then defeated Luke Trinka from Bowdoin 6-3,6-4 to advance from Sunday action.

The Georgia Tech freshman had defeated Wofford’s Park Thompson  in straight sets to advance to Sunday’s action. Eubanks was rated a 5-star player by the Tennis Recruiting Network before he landed in The Flats, and has gone 13-3 playing  junior events in 2014.

On Monday, The Round of 16 as well as the quarterfinals of the ITS Summer Championships will be played. The semi-finals and finals matches for singles are going to be played on Tuesday August 12th.
