It took 11 innings but Georgia Tech avoided losing their third straight game on Saturday, downing the Miami Hurricanes 7-5.

The Georgia Tech baseball team won their tenth game of the season on Saturday night, defeating the Miami Hurricanes 7-5. The win over Miami helped the Jackets avoid their third straight loss after losing to Miami in a high-scoring affair on Friday night.

Right-hander Jonathan Hughes pitched four steady innings for the Jackets on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks. Hughes pitched two strong innings to start the game for the Jackets before running into trouble during the third and fourth innings.

In the third inning, Hughes began to lose control allowing two walks, a hit by pitch, and throwing a wild pitch before allowing a run on a sacrifice fly.

Ben Schniederjans and Ryan Wilborne both pitched an inning each in the fifth and sixth respectively. Schniederjans allowed one lone run on two hits and a walk in his single inning of work. Wilborne’s one inning of work went was smooth sailing, allowing just one Hurricane to reach base.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets offense scored runs in just three innings. In the third inning, the Jackets brought in the game’s first run on a Coleman Poje RBI double. The Jackets would tack on four more runs in the seventh inning via three singles and a sacrifice fly.
