Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien faces another challenge this weekend as his Eagles prepare to host No. 14 Georgia Tech (8-1) at Alumni Stadium on Saturday. An unstable QB situation. As they face a fired up Yellow Jackets team.
Georgia Tech is looking to prove the CFP wrong, their final three games.

Bill O'Brien Announces Starting Quarterback

Thursday morning, Alabama transfer Dylan Lonergan was announced as the starter for the game on Saturday.

The quarterback situation in Chestnut Hill has been anything but stable. O’Brien started redshirt sophomore Dylan Lonergan two weeks ago against No. 12 Notre Dame, but after an early interception and a sluggish start, he turned to redshirt senior Grayson James midway through the second quarter. The change didn’t spark much improvement, and the Eagles’ offensive inconsistency continued.

That instability carried over into last week’s 45–13 loss to SMU, marking Boston College’s ninth straight defeat. This time, O’Brien opened the game with James under center, but after three drives that included two fumbles, he once again turned to Lonergan. The Alabama transfer led BC’s only touchdown drive, connecting with Jordan McDonald on a five-yard pass in the fourth quarter — long after the game had slipped away.

Through ten games, the numbers reflect the ongoing shuffle. Lonergan, who transferred from Alabama in December 2024 and won the starting job in camp, has completed 162 of 242 passes for 1,655 yards, with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games. James, meanwhile, has gone 71-for-127 for 908 yards, tossing seven touchdowns and five interceptions in six appearances.

The Eagles (1–9, 0–6 ACC) will look to find some rhythm against a Georgia Tech team coming off a bye week. The Yellow Jackets, 16.5-point favorites as of Wednesday, are eager to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season. A defeat highlighted by defensive lapses the week before their open date.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
