Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key did not hold back when asked if quarterback Haynes King should be in the Heisman Trophy conversation. With the 8-0 No. 8 Yellow Jackets pushing for both an ACC Championship Game berth and a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff, Key believes his quarterback deserves a trip to New York.
“Find me somebody else that brings more value to the team, that is truly the epitome of what the team is rooted in,” Key said. “He can run, he can throw. I’m glad he’s on my team. I don’t have a vote for it… it’d be a shame if he’s not in New York. And I think he will be.”

Haynes King
King has been the driving force behind Georgia Tech’s epic season. In the 41–16 win over Syracuse, he delivered one of the most complete performances of any quarterback in college football this year. King completed 25 of 31 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns, setting a program record for completion percentage (80.6%) with a minimum of 30 attempts. He also rushed 12 times for 91 yards and two more scores, finishing the day with 395 total yards and five touchdowns.
His play has powered the Yellow Jackets to one of their best starts in decades, keeping them in the heart of both the ACC title race and the College Football Playoff hunt. Beyond the numbers, King’s leadership, poise, and ability to take over games have made him the face of Georgia Tech’s rise.
If King continues this level of play through November, the Heisman voters may be left with no choice but to book his ticket to New York. King has won multiples regular season honors. Including multiple Maxwell Cub player of the week honors. Along with being added to the Davey O'Brien watch list, and other honors.
