In a Thursday press conference, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball head coach Damon Stoudemire said that he is hopeful that senior guard Javian McCollum will play in the team's game today against the Northwestern Wildcats in the MKE Tip-Off.
McCollum started the first four games for the Yellow Jackets this season, with many fans thinking that he would play a pivotal role on the team this season. Which when on the court, he has scored in double-digits.
McCollum was averaging 12.8 points per game to start the season but suffered a concussion during the Yellow Jackets 81-58 loss to the then-No. 18 ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, keeping him sidelined for the teams last four games.
The Yellow Jackets have four players that are averaging double-digits in points this season, Lance Terry, Baye Ndongo, McCollum, and Naithan George, and missing one of those players leaves a hole that needs to be filled, granted Terry has been McCollum’s replacement the last four games and has helped keep the Yellow Jackets season afloat while McCollum has been out. The team has failed to reach 70 points in it’s last two games against Oklahoma and North Carolina, both raked teams.
If McCollum is able to suit up for the Yellow Jackets, it will be a crucial piece to the offense that the Yellow Jackets are getting back, and with the team still searching for a signature non-conference win, they will need all the help that they can get.
The Yellow Jackets are set to tip-off against the Wildcats at 4pm Eastern today.
