For any player that starts off the season hot, especially a freshman, it seems as if by the midpoint of the season, the player inevitably hits a slump, and that is what is currently going on for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets guard Dani Carnegie.
The freshman started the season hitting on all cylinders, as she would score in double digit point totals for the Yellow Jackets first five games of the season, and at one point, led the team in scoring. She would even have a span of five weeks in which she won four ACC Freshman of the Week awards. However, an injury in the team's first loss of the season, a double overtime heartbreaker to the Virginia Tech Hokies on Jan. 9, would seemingly derail her standout season.
Carnegie would return for the team's game against the Virginia Cavaliers on Jan. 23, and she showed promise at first, scoring a season-high 28 points against the Cavaliers. However, since then, Carnegie has lost her touch, as she has put up a total of 16 combined points in the team's last three games. This includes a 1-21 mark from beyond the arc during the current three game stretch.
Luckily, the Yellow Jackets have had Kara Dunn and Tonie Morgan step up for the team during the slump to keep the season afloat, but if the Yellow Jackets want to stay as a ranked team, they will need Carnegie to start delivering performances like she did at the start of the season.
You can catch the Yellow Jackets back in action today against the Boston College Eagles at 2pm Eastern time.
