Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets outfielder Drew Burress continued has lived up to the hype that he got at the beginning of the season, and he continued that stellar season in the team's series-opening 16-4 win over the Western Michigan Broncos today.
Burress wasted no time to make his impact on the game be felt, as he would hit a two-run home run in the second at-bat of the game for the Yellow Jackets, also bringing home shortstop Kyle Lodise, who was walked before Burress. The home run would be Burress' fourth of the season.
Burress would again make a huge impact play in his second at-bat, as he would hit a single to start the game 2-2. Burress would steal second base, then get brought home the next-at bat by a single by first baseman Kent Schmidt.
Burress would not get another hit in the game, as he would get three opportunities at the plate, but two resulted in a flyout and one resulted in a groundout.
Burress would bat 2-5 on the day with two RBI, a home run, and a single.
The performance has been up to par with what Burress has put up this season, as this was his fourth straight game getting two or more hits.
Burress has been a key contributor to the Yellow Jackets success this season, as he is second on the team in batting average, sitting at a .371 this season.
Burress and the Yellow Jackets will play game two of their series against the Broncos at 2pm Eastern tomorrow.
