There was some early signing day drama on Wednesday when Josh Petty didn’t officially sign with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets after Verbally committing to them on Aug. 3, but Yellow Jacket fans can now hold their breath as he has now officially signed with the Yellow Jackets.
Petty was a huge pick up for Brent Key and the Yellow Jackets, as Key has tried torevamp the offensive line this recruiting cycle, so adding one of the highest rated recruits in program history seems to be a good start to that.
The five-star offensive tackle from Roswell, Georgia is rated as the the No. 21 overall recruit in the nation, as well as the No.5 ranked offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class. He will be just the second five-star recruit to commit to The Flats, as the only other one in program might be a guy you have heard of: wide receiver Calvin Johnson from the 2004 recruiting cycle.
The 6-5, 285-pound recruit also proved himself on the wrestling mat during his time at Fellowship Christian School, where he won the Georgia 2A State Championship his sophomore year, and was runner-up in 2024.
Petty chose to sign with the Yellow Jackets over other notable programs, including Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Stanford.
With the departure of Yellow Jackets offensive tackle Corey Robinson to the transfer portal earlier this week, the door is wide open for Petty to make a big splash in his freshman year with the Yellow Jackets.
