With every college basketball offseason, it seems that more and more players are leaving teams that they are on for better destinations. Whether it be the transfer portal or declaring for the NBA Draft, players will do whatever they think is better for them. One of those players, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets forward Duncan Powell, did just that, as he announced that he would be declaring for the NBA Draft after one season with the Yellow Jackets.
Powell transferred to the Yellow Jackets last offseason from the Sacramento Hornets, searching for a fresh start for his junior season. It worked, as Powell would revitalize a college career that seemingly would end with Powell not having a shot at going pro.
However, if Powell showed anything to Yellow Jackets fans and NBA scouts last season, it was that he knows his role on a team, and can play up to bigger roles if need be.
A lot of times in the second half of the season, when Powell started to routinely get put in the starting lineup, he would come up in big ways for the Yellow Jackets.
I would argue that there were nights where Powell was the main scoring option for the Yellow Jackets, as he had six games in just the second half of the season, including 21 points in the second round of the ACC Tournament and 24 points in the second round of the tournament.
The hole left by Powell will be a big one, and one that the Yellow Jackets will undoubtedly have a challenge to fill.
