Georgia Tech forward Duncan Powell should have won ACC Sixth Man of the Year

With the ACC handing out their annual awards, there were some awards given that were obvious, like Duke's Cooper Flagg winning the ACC Player of the Year, but a lesser know award was given to California Golden Bears Jeremiah Wilkinson: the ACC Sixth Man of the Year award. However, I would say that Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets forward Duncan Powell had the better case for the award.

Powell was put into a bigger role than he expected to be in with the Yellow Jackets, as he was supposed to be a role player this season and not get that many minutes. However, injuries to the team thrusted Powell into the spotlight, and he shined the brightest in the toughest moments for the Yellow Jackets.

Powell did struggle a little in the first half of the season to find his groove, but after he found it, he became an instant favorite of mine. In the last half of the Yellow Jackets season, Powell would score at least ten points in 15 of 17 games, including a stretch where he scored 20 or more points in four of the team's last six games. Two of those games came in the ACC Tournament, where Powell but up 24 points against Virginia and then 21 points against the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils.

Without question, if I ever needed a player to step up to a role that he normally would not, I would choose Powell to be that player, and words can not express how thankful Yellow Jackets fans should be to have a player like Powell on the team.
