Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women's basketball player Kara Dunn has been selected as one of five players named the National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
The only game that the Yellow Jackets played during the week was their 100-61 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers on New Year's Eve, where Dunn scored a team-high 28 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, as the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-0 this season.
While most of the attention on the Yellow Jackets has come from the emergence of freshman guard Dani Carnegie, it can get lost to some how crucial of a role that Dunn has on the team. Dunn has been a major contributor for the Yellow Jackets this season, as she is second on the team in points per game this season with 14.8 and leads the team in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game. Dunn has scored in double digits in all but three games this season, including the team's last eight games and scoring more than 20 point three times this season. Dunn has also put up two double-doubles this season, against Nebraska and Georgia State. The junior guard has led the Yellow Jackets in scoring five times this season, while leading the team in rebonds six times this season.
It is the first time that Dunn has received the award in her career. The other four were Washington guard Elle Ladine, Notre Dame guard Olivia Miles, Maryland guard Kaylene Smikle, and USC guard JuJu Watkins.
Dunn and the Yellow Jackets will be back in action again today, as they take on ACC opponent Syracuse at 7pm Eastern time.
