The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball team came into yesterday's game against the Virginia Tech Hokies 15-0 and looking for their fourth conference win this season. However, what they got, was the team’s first loss of the season, in heartbreaking fashion, in a 105-94 double overtime loss.

The Hokies came into the game with at 19.8 percent chance to win the game, according to ESPN Analytics, however the Hokies would come out firing on all cylinders from the beginning of the contest, making five three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 26-23 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets defense would step up in the second quarter, outscoring the Hokies 21-13 in the quarter, and the offense would again step up, specifically junior forward Kara Dunn, who scored 12 of her season-high 33 points in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets would head into halftime up 44-39.

Both teams scored 22 in the third quarter, but the Yellow Jackets would see freshman standout Dani Carnegie leave the game with a hamstring injury. The Hokies defense stepped up enough in the fourth quarter to give their offense a shot to stay in the game, and they took full advantage of that. The Hokies would go on an 8-0 run to take a four-point lead with just over a minute left in the game, but the Yellow Jackets fired back, and junior guard Tonie Morgan would make a layup with 11 seconds left in the quarter to tie the game at 80 and send it to overtime.

The teams battled back and forth in the first overtime, with neither team pulling away, and the with the Yellow Jackets down 89-92 with two seconds left, Rusne Augustnaite would put up a desperation three-pointer that fell in the net, sending the game into a second overtime. However, the Yellow Jackets magical season would take a halt, as the Hokies outscored them 12-2 in the final overtime period, with the only shot going in from Chazadi Wright and Dunn making a free throw each, as the Yellow Jackets lost in heartbreaking fashion.

All five Virginia Tech starters finished with at least 17 points, while the Yellow Jackets only had two people: Dunn, with 33 and Tonie Morgan, who finished with 28.

The Yellow Jackets will be in action again on Sunday, as they travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals at 4pm Eastern time.
