Heading into the 2025 college football season, a lot can be said about both the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and their in-state rival Georgia Bulldogs, as both teams are geared up for successful campaigns for the season. However, why not get the friendly competition started early with fans off the field with a debate?

That’s exactly what prominent Atlanta-based talk show personality and host of 680 The Fan show, “Chuck and Chernoff”, Matt Chernoff, did during their show yesterday. Chernoff made the statement that, “this season is a rare occasion where Georgia Tech is set up better than Georgia at quarterback”.

He is not wrong in saying that, as the Yellow Jackets return Haynes King, for what will be his sixth and final season of college football, while the Bulldogs will roll with Gunner Stockton, who has started a grand total of one game: the Bulldogs College Football Playoff loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, where he completed 20 of 32 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown, while being sacked four times.

King proved last season that he can be a viable starter for the Yellow Jackets when healthy, as he missed time during the Yellow Jackets games against the Virginia Tech Hokies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Miami Hurricanes. King has been the Yellow Jackets starter for the past two seasons and has shown that he can be a lethal weapon when on the field, becoming one the college football’s best dual threat running quarterbacks over the past two seasons.

I would absolutely take Haynes King over Gunner Stockton heading into the 2025 college football season, and like Chernoff’s co-host said in the episode, it would be a “strong win” for the Yellow Jackets.

Oliver even took it a step further by saying, "if you add in offensive coordinators, the that strong win turns into a landslide".
