It was a homecoming game for Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets forward Duncan Powell, as the Yellow Jackets travelled to his hometown of Dallas, Texas for a matchup with the SMU Mustangs, and while he did tie his second-best point total of the season with 13 and grabbed 11 rebounds as he recorded his second double-double of the season, but the return was short lived, as the Mustangs absolutely obliterated the Yellow Jackets, 93-71.

The scoring for the Mustangs started early and often, as they jumped out to a 23-7 lead early in the first half, and seemed automatic from beyond the arc, as the team made seven of their first eight three-point attempts in the first half, and the Yellow Jackets offense struggled to even get shots to fall at all and turned the ball over 14 times in the first half,, and by time they looked up at the scoreboard, they found themselves down 50-19 at halftime.

The second half would see the offense finally finding its spark, as the team scored a total of 52 points in the second half, 15 of which came from senior guard Javian McCollum, who led all Yellow Jackets with 20 points in the contest. Yellow Jackets guard Naithan George also recorded a double-double with 11 points and ten assists, his second in the past three games. Other top scorers for the Yellow Jackets include Lance Terry, who ended the game with 10 points.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 8-9 this season, and will take the court again on Tuesday, Jan. 14, as they host the 13-4 Clemson Tigers.
