The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are all set to host ACC opponent and rival, the Virginia Tech Hokies tonight, in a matchup of two teams that have been fighting to even post a winning record this season. A loss by either team would drastically hurt the little chance left that they have to make the NCAA Tournament in March.
Sitting at 8-11, the Yellow Jackets have been plagued by injury this season, with only two players, sophomore guard Naithan George and sophomore forward Baye Ndongo, playing in every game for the Yellow Jackets this season. The team was sitting at 7-7 entering the new year, and even won their first game of the year against Boston College, but since then, the Yellow Jackets have lost four straight to Syracuse, SMU, Clemson, and Florida State, making them 8-11 heading into the game.
Virginia Tech comes into the game as winners of two of their last three with victories over NC State and California before losing their last game to Wake Forest to bring their record to 8-11.
The game could come down to just who capitalizes on turnovers the most, as both teams are in the bottom four in the ACC in turnovers per game, with Virginia Tech turning the ball over the most this season.
While the Yellow Jackets did lose to Florida State the last time they took the court, it is worth noting that the offensive production was one of their best in an ACC conference game this season, with three players, Lance Terry, Duncan Powell, and Javian McCollum all scoring more that 20 points in the contest.
The game is set to tip off at 7pm Eastern time tonight.
