The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team (8-8) will be back in action today, as they travel to Dallas, Texas for a conference matchup with the SMU Mustangs (11-4). Both teams are coming off losses, with the Yellow Jackets losing late to the Syracuse Orange, 62-55, four days ago, while the Mustangs have lost their last two games to two perennial ACC powerhouses in North Carolina and Duke.
The Mustangs open as an 11.5-point favorite in the contest, according to ESPNBET. The Yellow Jacket offense will have to find a rhythm early in the game if they want to stay in the game, as they are coming off of perhaps their worst offensive performance of the season, scoring a season-low 55 points against the Orange. The SMU offense has been on a tear this season, averaging 84.1 points per game, second-best in the ACC, and almost a full ten points higher than the Yellow Jackets points per game average of 75.9. Perhaps the biggest area of need for the Yellow Jackets is just finding a spurt of offense to keep up with the Mustangs as the game goes on.
Both teams like to spread the ball around on offense, with both teams having four players that are averaging at least ten points per game, with Lance Terry leading the charge for the Yellow Jackets with 15.8 points per game, while on the other side, Mustangs guard Boopie Miller leads the team with 15.3 points per game. Ball movement is key for both teams, as the Mustangs are second in the ACC with 15.7 assists per game, and the Yellow Jackets sit just behind them with 15.6 assists per game, good for third in the conference.
Tip off for the game is scheduled for 4pm Eastern time.
