In what could be the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets women’s basketball’s biggest threat to their record-setting start to the season, the No.17 ranked Yellow Jackets will welcome the No.23 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers at 5:30 pm Eastern time today.
The Cornhuskers come into the game 10-1, winning each of their last five games since losing to the Creighton Blue Jays 80-74 on Nov. 22. The winning streak is mainly due to the team’s hard nose defense, as they have not allowed any team during the stretch to score more than 65 points in a game. It is worth noting that the game against the Blue Jays is the only time this season that the team has played on the road.
The Yellow Jackets head into the game 12-0, led by the offensive prowess of guards Dani Carnegie, who won the ACC Rookie of the Week last week, and Tonie Morgan, who is averaging 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. The tandem could make their case for the best backcourt in the conference this season.
As the nonconference schedule comes to an end for both teams, this could be a pivotal matchup when it comes time for the selection committee to pick what teams they want in the brackets for the NCAA tournament.
The game is the first of three straight games that the Cornhuskers will have against currently ranked opponents, while the Yellow Jackets will begin the bulk of their conference play against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Dec. 29.
