Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets freshman guard Dani Carnegie has been voted ACC Rookie of the Week after stellar performances against the UL-Monroe Warhawks and the North Carolina Tar Heels last week.
In the Yellow Jackets 97-37 win against the Warhawks, Carnegie had 14 points in just 17 minutes of playing time, while also adding in eight rebounds. Then, Carnegie proved that she could show up when it mattered most in the Yellow Jackets 82-76 win over the then-No.14 ranked Tar Heels, by scoring a season-high 22 points, tying her season-high for rebounds with nine, tying her season-high for assists with eight, and tying her season-high in steals with two. Carnegie made 8 of her 19 shot attempts in the game and made all four free throws she attempted.
The accolade comes as no surprise to Yellow Jacket women’s basketball fans, as Carnegie continued her impressive start to her Yellow Jacket career, leading the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game. Carnegie leads all ACC conference freshman in scoring this season, while she sits at third in most made three-point attempts in the conference by anyone this season. Carnegie is now one of just two freshmen in the conference to have multiple 20-point games this season.
Carnegie will look to continue her fast start, and the Yellow Jackets will have two matchups again this week, both at home. On Wednesday, the Rice Owls will visit McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday before the Yellow Jackets take on their third ranked team of the season, the No.23 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers.
